Privacy Policy
The Healdsburg Herald is a satirical newspaper. This page is not satire.
The Herald collects remarkably little about its readers, which places it in the minority of Healdsburg institutions. Here is all of it.
Comments
When you post a comment, we receive the name and email address you enter, the comment itself, your IP address, and your browser's user-agent string. We use these to run the comments section and keep out spam. Your email address and IP address are never published. Comments appear right away unless our spam filter flags them, and we may remove any comment.
If you tick the box to remember your details, your browser stores a cookie with your name and email address for one year so you don't have to type them again. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
We do not use avatar services, so no data about your email address is sent to a third party to display a picture.
Waitlist and subscriptions
If you join the waitlist, your email address is held by Kit (kit.com), the service that sends the Herald's Weekly Dispatch. Kit records whether each email is opened and which links are clicked, which tells us what gets read. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to remove your address at any time.
Things we don't do
We don't sell your information, run advertising trackers, or use website analytics that profile you.
Third parties
Our email newsletter is delivered by Kit. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from Google's servers, and Google receives your IP address and browser information in the process. Our web host, like every web host, keeps routine server logs that include IP addresses for security and troubleshooting.
How long we keep things
Comments remain on the site unless you ask us to remove them. Comments marked as spam are deleted. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, including any letter you wrote. Write to:
Effective October 2026.
